Swamped....

When Christmas rolls around, I seem to get a lot of custom orders with sewing…. a bit too much. This morning, while I was ripping out a seam (GAH!!!) my eyes crossed by themselves and blanked out for a tiny second, strange.... So I decided not to sew today; let my poor eyes rest a bit. That is why I have time to post a blog update. :)

The dress I was working on this morning is a "Made-To-Match" doll dress. A friend showed me a pink dress she bought for her little girl and she gave me a t-shirt that matched and asked if I could turn the t-shirt into a matching dress. It is quite a simple dress and I almost finished it in ONE afternoon! Then...I had to take a seam out 'cause the dress was too long. Ah man.....

I am also working on lengthening a coat's sleeves for a man from church. He's VERY tall and the coat is very nice so he asked if I could fix it for him. It is all hand sewing, (my poor tired hands) and I am almost done with it though! Just two more seams, each about six inches long!

After I finish with all my commissions, I get to make a few Christmas presents. Fun things like working with wood and leather. :)

Cold weather (possibly snow), not enough sleep, and selling things at a Christmas marketplaces

The weather is finally turning cold! I think it is a bit late (it's already December).

1) Something I love about December? Making money
2) Something I don't like about December? Spending money
3) Something I'm excited about during December? Chec conference is coming! (Just six months away!) (Hey, it's closer than it was yesterday! :D)
4) Something totally abused and taken for granted? Christmas
5) Something I am really grateful for today? Chocolate from my "Aunt" from far away. :)
6) My brain is wandering and I can't think of anything else? Yep

And there you have it folks! My six items of random facts about December.

Keep Lean'n on Jesus as he leads you along!

On Christmas Recital Preparations

Recently, I was trying to write an accompaniment to my brother's recital song he's going to sing to. This was quite difficult because it's in D flat.
"Okay, treat it like C sharp and things will go better."
It didn't go better.
Just about an hour later, I had put in all the chords, and was trying VERY hard to play them. It just wasn't working. So, I decided to transpose it half a step lower to C. MUCH better. :)
Now I have to remember that every time I play a note, it is one note lower than written. Brain hurts.....
Oh well, once I practice it enough it should come pretty easily.

Now, I am going to rummage in the refrigerators and see what we have that I can serve for lunch to my ravenously hungry siblings. :D

Eleven Questions, not Twenty

Okay Shoshanna, I'm doing it. :)

1) Did your dream last night involve alligators in Peru? Not that I remember, I think it was something about a long car trip and a church potluck.

2) You’re stuck in an elf world and you discover you have the ability to mind read. What do you do? I'd walk around asking the elf’s funny questions and reading their thoughtful reactions.

3) What was the first book you ever read? Probably Dr. Seuss’s ABCs, I loved that book so much I ate it up literally. :)

4) What is the most visited website on your computer? Probably my email, I check it about fifteen times a day. :D

5) Are you technically inclined? Depends... If it has something to do with a sewing machine then, yes. When it comes to computers, let's just say, I can help my grandma's out but that's all.

6) Were you involved in NaNoWriMo this year? I wrote during the month, my book now has 11,752 words, but I didn't start it in November so it doesn't count.

7) What is your favorite thing to bake? Cookies, defiantly.

8) What would you do if you were being pursued by alligators in Peru who were licking pork chops on a plate which they held on their tail? I'd climb a tree because everyone knows that alligators can't climb trees especially with a plate on their tail.

9) Do you play an instrument? I play piano and absolutely LOVE it. I also sing harmony with my family, I'm a soprano and lov'n it. :D

10) What was your favorite Anne of Green Gables series book… if you've read any? I've only read the first one, so I guess that would be my favorite. :P

11) What time did you wake up this morning? Well... the alarm went off at 7:00, but that doesn't mean I got up then. :)

Now I get to think up eleven new questions, hmmmmm......

1) What is the most exciting thing you're doing today?
2) What does your family mean to you?
3) Are you looking forward to Christmas?
4) Do you like classical music?
5) Do you like the cold weather or do you prefer summer?
6) What's your favorite bible verse?
7) Do you like flower arrangements?
8) Have you ever been to Washington D.C. or New York?
9) What color socks are you wearing right now?
10) What's your favorite band or artist?
11) What's the best book are you reading right now?

Now you can:
~Answer my eleven questions
~Create eleven new questions
~"Tag" as many blogs that you can think of
~Comment of those blogs, letting you know you've tagged them.

My doll clothes Christmas marketplace sale was last Saturday. I feel like I am on top of the world. Now I am not sewing every free second.

I'm am not sure what I am  going to be doing with all that free time. I will probably be practicing piano or writing books or cooking for my family.

Speaking of cooking, I need to get working on lunch! :D

Thoughts on Thanksgiving and More

Thanksgiving....
A time that Americans spend days preparing a feast to show that they are thankful for what they have. Then go out and trample people as they try to get all the good sales before everyone else.

This year, some shops are starting their sales the day of Thanksgiving! Talk about being un-thankful for what we already have!

Okay, enough rambling.
This Thanksgiving, it has been assigned that I will do most of the cooking. I still am not very sure what to think about that. In a way I am happy because I do really enjoy cooking but I am also wondering how I am going to prepare for our doll clothes sale that's coming up in December. I suppose it is only two or three days that I will not be sewing so it shouldn't hurt my inventory too badly.

Today, I cooked almond cookies. As usual, they are gluten-free. This recipe is our most delicious recipe. I have never heard anyone not like them! We gave them out as Christmas gifts one year and everyone absolutely loved them. I personally prefer the batter better than the cooked cookies.

I don't really know how I am finding time to post this, but I am anyway. :)

Here is the first and unedited chapter of a book I am writing called Quest for the Cabin of Light:

I inhale sharply as I round the last bend in the path and look ahead. My entire view is filled with stormy splendor.
A huge expanse of gray-blue Ocean fills up most of my vision. White-capped waves are rolling in and out, up and down, over and over again. They never stop, never tire, relentlessly carving the rocks into a masterpiece of Great Father’s design.
Gusts of wind coming off the ocean blow my hair around my face, and my skirt around my ankles. I smooth my hair back and step out of the forest.
Between me and the open beach is a maze of gigantic driftwood. Some logs have roots sticking out the ends, looking rather like they are having a bad hair day.
Laughing at the thought of logs trying to comb their hair, I decide to climb on top of the nearest log and sit for a little while. It is harder than I first thought and my bare feet slip on the sun-baked wood, I fall on my back unharmed and lie there remembering Dear-Old-Man’s words, “The path that leads down to the ocean you will follow, left you turn when the water you see. Three bends the beach will take before a brave traveler will find a path leading away from the ocean. Take this path or find your way blocked, the Cabin of Light is along this path.”
Dark, angry-looking thunderclouds are approaching along the western sky, making the sea look angrier than ever. I decide that I had better hurry and find the cabin before I get soaked to the skin in one of our famous rains.
Standing up, I notice that the wind has gotten stronger, almost blowing my jacket off! I zip it up, pull it tighter, and begin my long walk down the beach.
I try to remember what Dear-Old-Man had said, was it around the first bend or the second? Would the cabin be hard to spot among the forest or would it stick out?
Because the cabin is called The Cabin of Light, maybe it shines like the sun and will be easy to find!
Scanning the thick forest, I notice a dark shape moving through the trees, keeping pace with me. Is it just my eyes or is something in there following me? I feel a cold shiver go down my back as I remember Dear-Old-Man’s words,
“It is a very dangerous quest my dear Mouna. Shadow-Man will do anything to stop you. You will need to keep your wits about you at all times. He is very tactical and will show you many other paths but, you must stay on mine.”
Maybe that is Shadow-Man or maybe one of his warriors! Maybe he is already trying to stop me! I haven’t even entered his domain yet!
The wind is getting stronger; fingers of cold are pricking sharply through my thin clothes.
How much beach will be left after the tide comes in all the way? Shuddering, I forget Shadow-Man, and begin running down the beach, hoping I can find the path before the tide comes in all the way.
I look into the forest and there is the shadow keeping pace with me even now, when I am running! Another shiver goes down my spine and I decide to think about how warm and dry the cabin will be instead.
Presently, I have rounded the third bend in the path and in front of me is a small inlet with no path around it.
Dear-Old-Man had said, “Take this path or find your way blocked.” I turn around and walk slowly along the forest to find the path leading away from the ocean.
Being this close to the forest, I can feel my nerves trembling; the shadow warrior could be right next to me! I glance into the forest but see no one.
I guess I should be relieved but instead, I get more nervous, maybe it is hiding so that it can jump at me?
Each time an ocean wave comes in, I can feel a little bit of water tickling my bare toes. Still I can’t see the path and I am coming upon the third bend again! I turn back towards the inlet and follow the forest again.
Now the ocean is beginning to swirl around my ankles each time a wave comes in. In frantic haste, I begin to run, trip on a rock, and fall, landing full length in the icy water.
Disgusted with my self for being so foolish, I slowly move myself into a crawling position.
Right in front of me is a little path leading into the forest. How did I miss it? I must have been going to fast.
I pick myself up, shake off, and walk into the Forest of Darkness and the foreboding domain of Shadow-Man.

My Current Favorite song.

Summer Vacations, Fall Harvest, and Winter Preparations

Why is it that summer is always busier than you first expect?
Summer should be seemingly endless days full of doing nothing.

This summer on the other hand has been very VERY EXTREMELY busy. The first week or so was full of...school.
I was studying for my end of the year tests which I ended up taking in July. Oh the joys of being home schooled. :)

The next few weeks were full of building a greenhouse in our backyard! I learned that construction is actually more like sewing than most people would realize. :D

During the weeks of building the greenhouse, we found out a dear friend was getting married, we hadn't seen his family for twelve years so we decided to take three weeks to visit them.

Before we left, my sister and I went to a youth conference for a week. I learned SSOOO much, made so many new friends and became ever so much closer with my Savior. All through the week, we practiced singing songs as a choir. Then, at the end of the week as a close of conference, we sang them. I enjoyed that so much! Singing with a whole bass and tenor section gives so much depth to the harmony!

The day after the conference, we packed up for our big trip and the day after that we left home for three weeks!

Our trip started out shaky with some pretty scary incidents but by the second day, we had smooth sailing.

Speaking of sailing, on our trip, we got to go out on a sailboat on the ocean! Living in the middle of the US doesn't give much room for that so we didn't know anything about it and had to be instructed in just about every thing. Our favorite saying now is: "How many Landlubbers does it take to sail a boat?"

We finally made it back home and immediately started harvesting veggies from a farm up north. We are still processing boxes of Potatoes, Onions, Beets, and Cabbage, we have finished processing boxes full of carrots, corn, and some onions. We go back to the farm next Tuesday which is a little less than a week away! I need to get working!

  Oh well... :D

School is going well, maybe. :P

Yesterday we had our chimney cleaned by a chimney sweep! He came in full historic attire: Black shirt, Black Vest, Black dress pants, a Black dress coat, and a Top Hat! We had lots of fun watching him clean it out.

If there is a bad storm and the power goes out, we will not be cold because we will have a fire in the fireplace! :)

Slow Computers

Today I have been waiting on a computer for most of the day.

Trying to play a song that a friend sent me and waiting

                  and waiting
                                         and waiting...

Checking my email and waiting
                                    and waiting
                                            and waiting...

Trying to delete files to speed up my sister's computer and waiting
                                                                                    and waiting
                                                                                         and waiting...

Why is it that when you want the computer to go fast, it always goes slower?

Right now, I am waiting on the computer...again...

So you people who follow my blog, you can thank the computer for being so slow because I have time to make another blog post! :)

I am not going to be doing much crafts for a few weeks because I need to study for our end of the year tests but this means that I might have more time for blog posts because I am not doing any crafts but then I will not have any new crafts to write about! Oh well. :)

A few weeks ago, I started creating a Cinderella scene inside an empty pumpkin shell. It isn't finished yet and I don't know if it ever will be finished but I took a few pictures of it so I am going to share them. :)

Sewing and more Sewing! :)

I am going to finally post something!

In my last post, I mentioned that I started sewing 18" doll clothes. Now I am selling them as well!

I had a booth at a local conference for three days and sold most of my inventory which was about 40 outfits! I had great fun visiting with the other expo hall people and seeing what hobbies/crafts other people do. For example, guns that shoot marshmallows, necklaces that are made with bullet shells, beautiful paintings, and decorated hats!

One of the weirdest happenings was when I was taking down my booth. This man came up and asked if I was the owner of the booth, I said yes and he handed me a five dollar bill! The thoughts running through my head went something like this:
"Why a five dollar bill?"
"Maybe I dropped one and he wants to return it?"
"No, I have run through my records, I still have the right amount"
"WHY???"

As though he read my thoughts, he said, "I have been praying and feel led by the Lord to give the owner of this booth five dollars"

With questions still running through my head, I accepted it and said thank you.

No, what does a person do with five dollars that she didn't earn? Give it away of course! So, I found the booth of Gospel for Asia (www.gfa.org) and handed it to them.

That episode over, I proceeded to our mini van and attempted to load books from the book sale my mom went to, everything for my siblings booth (www.tasteforhealth.blogspot.com), all the stuff from my booth, and seven people!!!

Needless to say, we couldn't get it all in, we had to put some of the stuff in another family's car.

We got home and went to bed as soon as we could get the van unloaded and eat dinner.

Well, now I am REALLY tired and am going to bed VERY soon!
